Helen Mirren 69 Likes A Good Spanking – our coolest and hottest Dame has been talking on Jimmy Fallon’s 100th edition of the Tonight Show about her views on  Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Helen said: ‘Whips and chains are not my style, but who doesn’t enjoy a jolly good spanking once in a while?’

The question came up as part of the Tonight Show sketch feature “Mirror, Mirror” which sees Fallon ask a mirror, behind which is Mirren, a series of questions. As well as the 50 Shades bondage question Fallon also asked the actress what her favourite movie was to which she replied ‘Sharknado.’

Other gems of information include the fact that Dame Helen is a keen Subway sandwich fan revealing ‘My motto in life is you can never go wrong by treating yourself to a nice foot long.’

More Older Women In Bikinis – a new survey has revealed that sales of bikinis to women over the ago of 50 have more than doubled.

The older woman most responsible for the change in swimwear sales appears to be actress Helen Mirren. When photos of the actress wearing a red bikini on holiday in Italy in 2008 emerged there was much talk about how great she looked and at that stage it was extremely rare for a women over  50 to wear a bikini. In fact at the time the photos were taken Helen Mirren was actually 63-years old.

She has since been joined by many older celebrities who are more than happy to share with the world that they are still in great shape. In fact some of the celebrities now wearing 2-piece swimwear outfits are in better shape in their 50s than they were in their 30s or 40s.

Over the last couple of years some of the older women celebrities we have seen who are happy to hit the beach in a bikini include Jane Seymour (63-years old),  Christie Brinkley (60-years old), Heather Locklear (52-years old), Marh Helgenberger (55-years old), Jerry Hall (57-years old), Demi Moore (51-years old) and Sharon Stone (56-years old).

Cameron Diaz Talks About Kate Upton Bikini Scenes – the actress has been talking about her thoughts on having to star opposite a bikini clad Kate Upton.

Despite the fact that she is now 41-years old and the woman opposite her was not only half her age but also one of the world’s top swimsuit models Cameron Diaz says that she was quite happy to appear onscreen with the Sports Illustrated model.

“I wasn’t like, ‘Oh my God, I am going to be in a bikini and Kate is going to be in a bikini and what is everyone going to think of me. I am 20 years older than her. I am not trying to be her. She is a beautiful woman. We are completely different and I celebrate her. I don’t wish I was 21 anymore. I am very happy to be 41 and I love it. I feel great about my body. I take care of myself. It is important to me.”

Joanna Lumley Explains How To Be A National Treasure And Still Look Hot At 67 – she started as a model and on the way to being a national treasure has even taken on the British government (and won) and as her latest movie is up for several Oscars she gives us as a few hints as to how she does it all.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping published this month Joanna seems very much at peace with the whole idea of ageing unlike many of those in the public eye and facing such scrutiny over their looks and how they dress.

Indeed she says that she is quite happy with the different roles that are now open to her as an actress and can’t see why she would even consider having plastic surgery saying ‘I’m really not against it (cosmetic surgery) but what’s the point of getting stuff done when I’m looking to play older people like grannies?’

This may also have something to do with the fact that Joanna is still a stunning looking woman who has beautiful skin and incredible bone structure so is still able to play a wide range of roles and has certainly not been cast into the “granny role” by anyone just yet. This places Joanna into the same ‘hot older British actress’ category as Helen Mirren and Felicity Kendal.

In fact Joanna’s career has always been very diverse and in addition to her great looks she has also had the sort of classy voice that have made many men melt. Add to this a very high level of intelligence (when a large group of well-known people took the Common Entrance Exam in 1981 only our greatest historian of that time, AJP Taylor, beat her and then only by 2 marks).

2014 BAFTA Winners and Red Carpet Fashions – last night saw the 2014 BAFTAs being handed out at a star-studded evening hosted by Stephen Fry at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

As far as the awards went the big winners on the night were the team behind the space sci-fi movie Gravity which won 6 prizes on the night while the 12 Years A Slave team will have been very pleased lifting the award for Best Film.

Although some are still a little surprised by the classification Gravity won the award for Best British Film with director Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mamá También) picking up the Best Director prize as well as 4 other technical prizes.

The “is it or isn’t it a British film” debate rumbled on last night on Twitter long after the crowds at the Royal Albert Hall had gone home.Top movie publication Variety stated that they were happy the movie qualified for the British classification due to its ‘significant British involvement.” The other main trade journal Screen International seemed far less convinced of its right to be seen as a British movie stating that it would not pass the BFI classification to be classed as British. It should be noted that even though this is true the BAFTA rules are different to the BFI rules.

Susan Sarandon Talks About Relationship With Man Who Is 30 Years Younger – the actress was once part of what was considered to be one of the strongest relationships in Hollywood but since splitting with Tim Robbins she has remained tight-lipped about any romantic attachments.

There had been considerable rumour that Susan was involved with 36-year old Jonathan Bricklin about a year ago but the 67-year old actress refused to say then that they were even going out together. Susan and Jonathan first met when they both invested in a table tennis themed club in their home city of New York.

SPIN is located on E 23 St and is an unusual combination of bar, restaurant and 17 ping pong tables. The club has started something of a craze with other SPIN clubs now open in LA, Toronto, Milwaukee and Dubai. The members only club has a philosophy described as a wish to “create a global community of people socializing, exercising and fantasizing together’. It would appear to be pretty exclusive however as a yearly membership for the New York club will currently set you back $650.

Susan has finally confirmed that she and Jonathan are more than just business partners in a new interview with  AARP magazine which is out this month. She still seemed a little shy talking about her relationship saying firstly ‘Jonathan and I collaborate on different things. That means a lot of things.’ When pushed a little further as to whether this meant they were romantically involved she answered ‘Yeah I think so.’

Susan has had a great acting career so far with a number of Oscar nominations and a Best Actress Oscar award in 1995 for her part in the movie Dead Man Walking.

 

SAG Awards, Winners and Red Carpet Photos – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 19 January 2014

SAG Awards, Winners and Red Carpet Photos – the US awards tour has now moved onto the Screen Actors Guild awards which were held on Saturday night at the Shrine Auditorium in LA.

The awards seem to show that American Hustle is still gaining momentum as we move nearer to this year’s Oscars. The movie took home the SAG top prize of Outstanding Performance by a Cast which is SAG-speak for Best Movie.

There was further awards glory for both Cate Blanchett, who won Best Actress for Blue Jasmine, and Lupita Ngong’o, who won Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave. Both of them now seem to be clear favourites to take home the Oscar this year. In fact Cate Blanchett seems to have had her name on the Academy Award since about 3 months ago although as we all know there have been some shock winners of the big awards in the past.

As well as looking at the year’s best movies the SAG awards also honour what they view as the year’s best television performances. In one of the most hotly contested categories Modern Family took home the award for Best Ensemble Cast in a Comedy with Big Bang Theory surprisingly going home empty-handed.

In the Best Comedy Actor award Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) lost out to Ty Burrell, who plays the part of Phil Dunphy in Modern Family. In the Best Comedy Actress category Mayim Bialik (Amy Farrah Fowler) lost out to Veep’s Julia-Louis Dreyfuss.

Winners and Fashions From The Olivier Awards – tonight saw the good and the great from the world of British theatre descend on Covent Garden for the 2013 Olivier Awards.

As far as the awards go the evening’s big winner was undoubtedly the stage adaptation of Mark Haddon’s brilliant 2003 book The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.

Simon Stephen’s adaptation of the novel about Christopher Boone, a young Asperger’s Syndrome sufferer who sets out to discover who killed his neighbour’s dog, was nominated for 8 Olivier awards and managed to win a very impressive 7 of these including the award for best new play.

28-year old Luke Treadaway, who plays the part of 15-year old Christopher Boone took home the award for Best Actor. Although he has received some superb reviews for this role he seemed a little surprised to have won the award as his fellow nominees included Mark Rylance (Twelfth Night), James McAvoy (Macbeth) and Rupert Everett (The Judas Kiss).

Best Actress went to Dame Helen Mirren for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in Peter Morgan’s The Audience. This role is proving to be something of a lucky charm for the actress as she was playing Elizabeth II when she picked up her Oscar in 2006’s The Queen. She has never won an Olivier award before despite being nominated on 3 separate occasions.

Red Carpet Fashion At The BAFTAs – despite the awful rainy weather tonight there were plenty of great outfits on show at this year’s BAFTA awards.

As you would expect on a special awards night black was a very popular colour although there were several actresses who broke with tradition and wore pink. This included Dame Helen Mirren who looked fantastic in a figure-hugging pink gown which she matched with a new pink hair style.

One presenter who made a name for herself this evening is Irish presenter Laura Whitmore who usually works for MTV but tonight was presenting the live stream on behalf of BAFTA. Laura wore a plunge fronted black jumpsuit designed by Alexandre Vauthier which revealed a lot of sideboob as she moved and also clearly showed that she wasn’t wearing much underwear on a cold London evening.

Apart from the evenings fashion news of course the main business of the evening was the awarding of the BAFTAs themselves. The night’s winners included Argo for Best Film, Ben Affleck for Best Director, Emmanuelle Riva for Best Actress, Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor, Skyfall for Best British Film and the director Sir Alan Parker won the British Academy Fellowship.

Helen Mirren Gets Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star – the 67-year old actress has received yet another honour, this time a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Dame Helen joked that she had finally got one of her wishes as the new award placed her right next to fellow Brit Colin Firth. “I couldn’t be prouder and more happy that I’m actually going to finally lie next to Colin Firth, something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time,” she said.

Both stars have received Oscars for their work portraying members of the Royal Family, Firth for his role in King George VI in the 2010 movie The KIng’s Speech and Mirren for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen.

Helen received her Hollywood star from US playwright David Mamet who has just finished directing her in an HBO film about controversial music producer Phil Spector who was responsible for the 60’s ‘Wall of Sound’ music production technique. Helen plays the part of Spector’s attorney in the film which also stars Al Pacino as Phil Spector.

Dame Helen is currently appearing as Alma Reville, wife of famous thriller director Alfred Hitchcock in last year’s late movie release Hitchcock. The film portrays the sexless relationship between the two whose marriage lasted 53 years. Helen has been quite open in the past about her views on the matter of sex and has famously said that she sets her alarm clock an hour early each morning to allow her time to make love.

There is not an interview to be found with Helen where the subject doesn’t get onto her looks and the fact that she has appeared nude in many of her earlier movies. You can now add to the list of ‘Mirren interview topics’ the red bikini incident. Dame Helen was snapped on holiday in Italy with husband director Taylor Hackford wearing a sexy red bikini. This seemed to shock a number of people that a woman in her 60’s was seen wearing a bikini. What many of them failed to take into account was the fact that Helen still has a better body than many women in their 30’s.

The actress is seen as embodying the perfect attractive ‘older woman’ and last year was named as the top choice ‘fantasy hot older woman’ in a survey amongst men aged between 18 and 24.

Dame Helen is currently waiting to see who comes out on top in a battle with another famous British Dame, Judi Dench as they are both up for the Best British Actress Award at the London Critic’s Circle Film awards to be held on 20 January. Dame Helen is up for her role as Alma in Hitchcock whilst Dame Judi has been nominated for her role as Bond’s boss M in Skyfall and also her part in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
