Olivier Awards 2014, Winners and Red Carpet Fashions – tonight saw the 2014 Laurence Olivier Awards being held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Myleene Klass

This year’s awards were co-hosted by Stephen Mangan and Gemma Arterton with the red carpet arrivals even having their own star to host the event in the lovely form of musician and presenter Myleene Klass.

Apart from Gemma Arterton and Myleene Klass other eye-catching outfits at tonight’s award ceremony came from Zrinka Cvitesic, Samantha Barks and Lizzie Cundy.

34-year old Croatian actress Zrinka Cvitesic is not that well-known at the moment but if her stunning look tonight in a long white fitted gown with lots of see-through sections is anything to go by we are guessing that we will all be seeing a lot more of her in the future. She is really only known here in the UK for her performance in the West End musical Once, for which she won a West End Frame Award for the best West End debut last year. Back home in Croatia she actually won the first series of Ples sa zvijezdama, the Croatian version of Strictly Come Dancing. Looking at her Olivier award outfit can we suggest the UK Strictly team get her on the phone to book for the next series. Incidentally as well as looking stunning tonight Zrinka also took home the award for Best Actress in a Musical for her part in Once. Read the rest of this entry »

Benedict Cumberbatch To Play Shakespeare’s Richard III on BBC – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 6 April 2014

Benedict Cumberbatch To Play Shakespeare’s Richard III on BBC –  despite having one of the busiest schedules of any British actor Benedict Cumberbatch is making space to play one of Shakespeare’s most difficult and iconic roles.

Just days after his Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman was announced as playing exactly the same role in a Trafalgar Studios production of the play in the West End in July this year, Benedict has been named as the title role in the BBC2 production of the play. The production will be part of the BBC’s 2nd series of History Plays and the production is to be directed by Dominic Cooke who has a wealth of experience with Shakespearean productions and who previously directed comedian Lenny Henry in the Royal National Theatre’s 2011 production of The Comedy of Errors.

No dates have been given yet for either the filming or the broadcast of the new BBC production but as we all know Benedict is incredibly busy at the moment and we would not be surprised if the rest of the cast have to fit around what few gaps there are in his diary, Let’s not forget that both he and Martin Freeman have to find plenty of time to film the next few episodes of Sherlock in time for Christmas this year. Dynasty Actress Kate O’Mara Dies Aged 74 – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 30 March 2014

Kate O'Mara shows cleavage in plunge front dressDynasty Actress Kate O’Mara Dies Aged 74 – actress Kate O’Mara died today at the age of 74 after a short illness.

She is best-known for playing the part of Cassandra “Caress” Morrell, Alexis Colby’s sister in the hit 80’s US series Dynasty. Joan Collins who played her on-screen sister in the show said today on Twitter ‘Tragic news about Kate O Mara , we had great fun on Dynasty when she played my sister Caress who Alexis insisted on calling CASSIE ! RIP.’

As well as the part in Dynasty Kate O’Mara played a host of similar style characters on UK television through the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. She specialised in a certain hard but sexy vampy type of woman who men found themselves both attracted to and also more than a little scared by. She also appeared in Doctor Who during the 80’s playing the part of the Rani, a Queen-lime Time Lord who was the Doctor’s main enemy in 2 stories, The Mark of the Rani and Time and the Rani.

Probably her busiest decade for UK tv work was the 1970’s when she featured in The Brothers (Jane Maxwell), as well as a number of one-off roles in classic 70’s shows such as The Persuaders, Jason King, Return of the Saint and The Protectors. These were followed by what is seen as probably one of the worst soaps ever shown in the UK, the ill-fated Triangle. This was set in the less than glamorous world of a North Sea ferry and amongst many unusual moments once had O’Mara sunbathing topless on the front deck of the ferry in view of the crew.

Another 80’s series she appeared in was Howard Way, which also had a nautical theme and in that show, which was in many ways a follow-on from The Brothers, she played the hard-nosed businesswoman Laura Wilde. Although the show got poor critical reviews it was nonetheless a ratings favourite and ran from 1985 until 1990, clocking up almost 80 episodes. Read the rest of this entry »

Vivien Leigh Archive Photos and Scripts Acquired By V&A – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 14 August 2013

Vivien Leigh - looking hot showing cleavage as Cleopatra in 1945 movie Caesar and CleopatraVivien Leigh Archive Photos and Scripts Acquired By V&A – there is still a huge amount of interest in the British actress even though it is almost 50 years since her death.

Vivien Leigh was famous for many different reasons, her 2 Oscar-winning performances in Gone With The Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire, her great beauty, her tempestuous private life, her struggles with depression and her marriage to Laurence Olivier.

The Victoria and Albert Museum has today announced that it has acquired Vivien Leigh’s archive of movie scripts, photos, letters, diaries, awards and many other personal items. The collection was previously in the hands of Leigh’s grandchildren and it features many items about the actress’s professional and private life that have never been seen in public before.

She was a great letter writer and amongst the large archive are around 7.5k letters sent to her and Olivier from a hugely diverse group of people including Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe. She was clearly a very organised person as she actually catalogued each of the letters in her collection.

One item that is sure to be of great interest to movie fans when the collection goes on display is the visitors book for the Olivier/Leigh family home at Notley Abbey in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire. This contains the signatures of many of the biggest movie stars of the age who visited the couple’s home including Judy Garland, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Orson Welles. Sophia Loren To Make New Movie – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 05 July 2013

Sophia Loren - older but still great cleavageSophia Loren To Make New Movie –  screen legend Sophia Loren is to make a return to our movie screens with a part in her son’s new film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter and a number of Italian newspapers the actress is set to star in La Voce Umana (The Human Voice) , a movie being directed by her son, 40-year old Edoardo Ponti.

The film is to be set in a number of different Italian locations including Naples and Rome, with a substantial part of the shooting due to take place in Ostia, a harbour town on the Tyrrhenian coast near to Rome.

The story of The Human Voice is based around a 1930 Jean Cocteau play which portrays the mental breakdown of a woman after she learns that her lover for the last 5 years is about to marry another woman. The story has previously been filmed in 1948 by Roberto Rossellini who used the plot of La Voce Umana as part of his anthology piece L’Amore. This earlier version had the acclaimed Oscar-winning Italian actress Anna Magnani playing the role that Loren is to take on in the new movie.

Despite now being 78-years old Loren is still a stunning looking woman as cab be sen from the photo shown here which was taken last year. There are many woman less than half her age who would love to rock a body half as good as hers. She last acted over 3 years ago when she appeared in the Italian tv movie My House Is Full Of Mirrors when she played her own mother!

Although it could seem a little awkward for Edoardo to direct his own mother in a movie he does have some experience of this already as he directed Loren in his 2002 movie Between Strangers (Cuori Estrani).

The Human Voice is expected to start shooting later on this month with a likely release date of some time next year.
