2014 Emmys, A Good Night For Modern Family, Sherlock and Breaking Bad – last night’s Emmy Awards proved to be a good night for the UK’s Sherlock series but although the show picked up 3 of the main awards there was not much else to cheer UK actors or tv producers.
Sherlock finally won over its US audience and emerged with Emmy wins for its lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Steven Moffat, the show’s writer.
It was another triumphant evening for the brilliant Breaking Bad, which saw the show pick up the evening’s most prestigious award, Outstanding Drama Series, in its final year. It also won the awards for Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Bryan Cranston), Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Aaron Paul) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Anna Gunn).
In the comedy categories Modern Family did best of all the series with wins in the Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series (Gail Mancuso) and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series(Ty Burrell) categories.
As was expected The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons once again took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus again winning the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for her role in Veep.
It was another big night on the red carpet and there were as usual some winners and some losers. Without much doubt last night was a big win for the colour red which seemed to be the most on trend choice of colour for the celebs who were invited to the Emmys. Amongst those choosing red, or a shade of that colour, were Mad Men actresses Christina Hendricks and January Jones as well as Heidi Klum, Kaley Cuoco, Claire Danes and award-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfuss.
Modern Family star Sofia Vergara turned up without her boyfriend Joe Manganiello and joked that she hadn’t brought him because he was too sexy and would be a distraction.
Sofia’s evening turned out to be a little more interesting than she might have liked as she suffered a nip-slip wardrobe malfunction at the after party whilst she was being spun round on the dancefloor by Dancing Withe Stars’ Derek Hough.
