Dannii Minogue – Dannii is in Melbourne this week for the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The main talking point around Dannii at the moment is her new pixie style hair. For the opening party Dannii wore a gold dress with a split down the front and paired this with some matching Georgina Goodman shoes.
39-year old Dannii is the ambassador for MSFW which is now in its 17th year and is a big draw for people to the Melbourne area. Dannii is well-known for her style and fashion advice and as well as designing her own clothing range she has recently published a book “Dannii:My Style”, which she will be promoting at shops in the UK later in September.
Dannii has just got back from a holiday in Thailand with boyfriend Kris Smith and little 13 month old Ethan. Any problems which may have troubled the pair looked to be long gone as they smiled and laughed their way through their break in the sun.
Maria Sharapova – Russian born Maria has been knocked out in the 3rd round of the US Open tennis tournament by Italian Flavia Pennetta. The 6-3, 3-6 6-4 defeat was Maria’s first 3 set loss this year.
Maria looked to be on good form earlier in the tournament but never settled in this match making 60 unforced errors in the defeat.Maria was the latest in a number of top female seeds to fall in the Flushing Meadows tournament and said ” Losing isn’t fun for anyone because we work to win. We don’t work to lose”.
Maria previously won the US Open back in 2006 and has also won Wimbledon (2004), Australian Open (2008), as well as twice being a semi-finalist in the French Open (2007, 2011). Maria is known beyond the world of professional tennis having been featured as a model in the famous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and in a number of adverts for various products including those for several fashion houses. This may be a factor in her being the most searched-for athlete in search engines during 2005 & 2008.Back in June this year Maria was named as one of the “30 Legends of Women’s Tennis: Past, Present and Future” by Time Magazine.
Andrea McLean – the ex GMTV weather girl and presenter of ITV’s Loose Women has been talking about her fear after suffering a bad reaction to anaesthetic whilst undergoing a routine operation.
Andrea was in hospital for surgery on an umbilical hernia. She had put off the operation for some time due to her fears that people would think she had gone in for a tummy tuck. She finally decided to go in for the op when a colleague asked her when her baby was due.
The day after her op Andrea’s head swelled up, her skin turned white and she had problems struggling for breath. Her husband, Steve Toms, was so frightened he ran into the hospital corridor screaming for assistance.
Andrea was given oxygen, adrenalin and steroids to counteract the bad anaesthetic reaction and was allowed home a few days later after observation. Although she is now fine she did suffer a panic attack in the shower after coming home.
Freddie Mercury – anyone visiting the Google search engine page today will see that they are celebrating what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday today with an animated video for Queen’s hit “Don’t Stop Me Now”.
Freddie was born Farrokh Bulsara in Stone Town, Zanzibar this day in 1946. The flamboyant Queen frontman died in 1991 after a long battle with HIV. Although he was born in Zanzibar the formative place in Freddie’s childhood was Mumbai, India where he lived until he and his family came to the UK when he was around 17.
As well as the Google tribute singer Katy Perry has created a video tribute to the much missed star. Although they had a number of big hits it was as a live band that Queen and Freddie were taken to the public’s heart. In 2009 a Classic Rock poll saw him voted the greatest rock singer of all time.
