Ben Cohen Announces Splits From Wife, More Curse Of Strictly – the popular former rugby star who was one of last year’s Strictly Come Dancing’s most popular competitors, today announced he has split from his wife of almost 12 years.
The show is getting something of a cursed reputation for ending marriages and relationships as so many of the last few years professionals and celebrities have found their personal lives under pressure after being in such a close relationship with their dance partner over the long Strictly winter months.
Today’s news means that out of the 15 celebrities on the 2013 Strictly series 3 have now announced a split from their long-term partners or spouses. As well as Ben Cohen both Rachel Riley and Susanna Reid have also had to reveal that they have split from their other halves since their time on the show.
Ben and his wife Abigail issued a joint statement saying: ‘Ben and Abby Cohen have agreed to take time apart to deal with some marital issues but remain fully committed to the welfare of their children.
‘There is no third party involved, and Ben and Abby now ask that their privacy and that of their family be respected at this difficult time.’
Despite this statement there is bound to be much speculation about the former rugby players close relationship with sexy Russian dancer Kristina Rihanoff. Just a few days ago one of the UK’s newspapers printed a photo showing the pair looking very close on a deserted London tube train. Although the photo was said to date to some time earlier this summer the timing will not be welcome to either Ben or Kristina.
Their shared tube journey is not the only time the pair have been together since the series ended as just this Tuesday they were both at the Dot Com Children’s Fund Charity Gala held at London’s Mansion House. They managed to keep a fairly low-profile at the event as most eyes were on another rugby star, Thom Evans, who was attending the ball with his new Strictly partner Iveta Lukosiute. Thom managed to render the attractive professional dancer speechless at the first Strictly live show as she was partnered with the man who had already said to anyone and everyone who would listen how he thought that she was stunningly attractive.
Despite leaving Strictly in November last year Ben and Kristina have been seen together on a number of different occasions this year. Kristina has taken on several personal appearances for Ben’s charity The Ben Cohen Stand Up Foundation, which he founded back in 2011. The charity’s aims are “to raise awareness of the long-term, damaging effects of bullying and to raise funds to support those doing real-world work to stop it.”
Ben has personal experience of the terrible impact that bullying can have on people’s lives as he lost his own father in 2000 after he was attacked whilst standing up for someone being bullied at the nightclub he managed in Northampton.
