Pixie Lott Channels Madonna’s Conical Bra Look – the 23-year old singer pulled off a look reminiscent of Madonna in the 90s as she wore a conical style bra top for her performance at the Manchester Pride Festival.
Pixie’s version of the conical bra look featured a material the same as that used in Madonna’s classic outfit but added a twist by surrounding the bra with a fluffy purple fabric. Her stage look was completed by a high-waisted red mini skirt and a pair of white lace-up shoes that looked like they could have come from a ten-pin bowling alley.
It was Pixie’s 2nd festival appearance in under a week as she was one of the headline acts at last week’s V Festival and she clearly seems to enjoy herself performing at this type of big event.
We are sure all this public exposure will mean good news for Pixie for the sales of her 3rd album (Pixie Lott) which was released earlier on this month. She says that her sound has matured a lot since her first 2 albums and says this is only to be expected as her first single was released when she was just 18-years old.
‘I think I’ve just matured. I think this album sounds more mature, I think I just learned more and obviously my first single came out when I was 18, so hopefully I’ve learned a few life lessons since then.’
The original Madonna cone bra was first worn by the singer on her 1990 Blond Ambition tour having been specially designed for her by Jean Paul Gaultier. She has since worn a slightly updated version of that original bra and corset for her 2012 MDNA tour. This updates version was also designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and was a more 3D design with the corset section resembling a leather and metal cage.
In fact although Madonna first wore the cone bra in 1990 the original inspiration for the look goes back much further than that. Back in the 1940s and 1950s there were a number of products that were worn by women to help them look like actresses such as Jane Russell and Jayne Mansfield. This led to the rise of the so-called “Sweater Girl.” In fact the actress Lana Turner was once known by the nickname “The Sweater Girl.”
Although there were several conical style bras available in the 50s, the main item of lingerie worn to pull of the “Sweater Girl” look was the bullet bra. In fact Jean Paul Gaultier admitted that what inspired him to design Madonna’s Blond Ambition conical bra was the original Perma-Lift bullet bra which dates back to the early 1940s.
