Audrey Hepburn’s Modelling Legacy, Her Granddaughter Poses For Vanity Fair – Audrey Hepburn was for many women the ultimate style icon and was famed for her natural beauty and sense of fashion. The news that her granddaughter has now started modelling is sure to create something of a buzz.
It is never easy to follow a famous member of your family into the same line of business as them bit when that family member is actress and style icon Audrey Hepburn then you can raise the degree of difficulty by several notches.
Emma Ferrer is a 20-year old art student (studying at Florence Academy of Art) who is the granddaughter of Audrey Hepburn although, as some may have worked out from her age, she was not actually born until a year after her famous grandmother’s death in 1993. Emma’s father is Sean Ferrer, the son of Audrey Hepburn and her first husband, the US actor Mel Ferrer.
Vanity Fair have not just used the grandchild of a famous model for the shoot but have also hired 23-year old Michael Avedon whose grandfather Richard Avedon was one of Audrey Hepburn’s favourite fashion photographers. To continue the nostalgic theme many of the shots in the magazine echo iconic Audrey Hepburn photos from an earlier time.
The photo that most shows the resemblance between Emma and her famous grandmother sees her wearing a stylish black and white jacket with matching stole and a very wide-brimmed hat in a matching black and white design.
Other photos in the feature include one where Emma is seen striking a dance pose while wearing a black turtleneck sweater and black trousers. This is a direct link to the outfit that Audrey Hepburn wore in the 1957 musical movie Funny Face. The movie also starred dance legend Fred Astaire and its opening title sequence was designed by Richard Avedon. In the movie Astaire’s plays the part of photographer Dick Avery, a role believed to be heavily based on Avedon.
Although you can see there is a family resemblance Emma does not seem to have the same gamine quality as her grandmother. In fact Audrey Hepburn’s persona in Roman Holiday is most often cited as the ultimate expression of gamine beauty. Audrey Hepburn herself was not always sure that she was a fan of her own particular sort of beauty as she believed she was “too thin and didn’t have enough breasts.”
