The 28-year old is shown performing a sex act on her then boyfriend 24-year old property developer Jake McLean.
According to today’s Sun on Sunday the video was shot on McLean’s mobile phone at the couple’s bedroom in the house they used to share in Epping, Essex.
Speaking to the paper Lauren said that she feels she has no control over this situation and says that her private life has been invaded in the most horrible way. As if the release of a graphic sex tape wasn’t bad enough, to make matters even worse the mobile phone video has been distributed online along with details of Lauren’s mobile phone number. This has unsurprisingly meant she has received a number of less than pleasant text messages about the video.
The video was apparently sent out to a number of people last week via email and text message and despite initially thinking she might have a case for harassment Lauren has now been told there is nothing to stop people exchanging the video and she can do nothing.
The release of the video comes under the heading of “revenge porn” and is just the latest case of a trend for ex-partners or their friends to release compromising footage of former partners after they have split up. It is quite similar to what happened to Tulisa Contostavlos when a former boyfriend released a very graphic video online back in March 2012.
Lauren and Tulisa are not the only women in the public eye to find they are appearing in a sex tape that has been distributed all around the internet. Other famous victims of leaked sex tapes include Kim Kardashian (a 2007 tape with then boyfriend Ray J) who earned a reported £3m from the people who bought the rights to her sex tape and Paris Hilton, whose 2004 1 Night In Paris video showing her with boyfriend Rick Salomon brought her international fame.
Other UK sex tapes that have leaked online include Abi Titmuss involved in a threesome with former Blue Peter presenter John Leslie (filmed in 200 released in 2005) and Katie Price’s 1999 tape featuring her then boyfriend Dane Bowers.
The release of revenge porn has become such a problem that the Government is to discuss changes to the law to make the distribution of such material an offence.
An amendment has been tabled to the Criminal Courts and Justice Bill which is currently passing through the House of Lords.
