2014 BET Awards, Fashion Trends and An Embarrassing Oops Moment – this year’s BET Awards showed a strong trend for white plunge fronted gowns among the attendees and also featured a rather embarrassing oops moment for one winner.

Without doubt the most popular fashion choice for the women at this year’s BET Awards was a long white gown with variations such as cut-out sections, high slits and low and very low fronts.

Among those going the new sexy white gown route were Paris Hilton, Faith Evans, Ashanti, Sevyn Streeter, Eva Marcille, Gabrielle Union, Tamar Braxton and Amber Rose.

The biggest winner of the night was Beyonce who picked up 3 awards from her 6 nominations. She won Best Female R&B Artist, Best Collaboration (with husband Jay Z) and also the FANdemonium award. She missed out on the Video of the Year award despite having 2 out of the 5 nomination slots (Partition and Drunk In Love) with the award going to Pharrell Williams for the very catchy Happy. Pharrell also picked up a 2nd award for the Best Male R&B Artist.

It was also a good night for New Orleans hip hop singer August Alsina who like Pharrell Williams picked up 2 awards, winning the Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award and the Best New Artist.

The awards were hosted by comedian Chris Rock and were held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. There was a most embarrassing moment for the organisers as the winner of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award was announced live on television as being Lionel Ritchie rather than the correct spelling of Lionel Richie. Bit of an oops moment there we think.

The awards don’t only cover music and there were also actors and sports stars honoured on the night. 12 Years A Slave took home the Best Movie award with it’s Oscar-winning female star Lupita Nyong’o winning the Best Actress award. Her 12 Years A Slave co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor took home Best Actor

From the world of sports tennis player Serena Williams won Sportswoman of the Year  with Oklahoma CIty Thunder basketball star Kevin Durant winning the male equivalent award.
