BGT’s Amanda Holden Channels Athena Tennis Girl Poster Ahead Of Tonight’s Final – Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has posted a photo which shows her lifting up her tennis skirt just as the famous Athena Tennis Girl did back in the 1970s.
Amanda was appearing with former British tennis player Tim Henman at a special pre-Wimbledon event being held at Westfield Stratford City and posted this photo on her Twitter account before going on court this afternoon.
The pose will be very familiar to many in the UK as it channels the Athena Tennis Girl poster that was such a huge success in the late 1970s. That poster showed 18-year-old student Fiona Butler exposing her pert bottom whilst wearing a short white tennis dress. Fiona was the girlfriend of the photographer Martin Elliott and has since revealed that she received no money for the pose despite the fact that the poster sold over 2m copies.
The poster is probably the most iconic reminder of the UK in the 1970s and is as representative of that generation as the Che Guevara poster “Guerrillero Heroico” is of the 1960s generation.
43-year old Amanda seems to have been more daring in her fashion choices this year and is showing more skin in nearly every appearance. She received lots of coverage this week when she appeared on the Alan Carr show and did a headstand for the comedian in spite of the fact that she was wearing a little black dress at the time. Her host protected her modesty by holding her dress up to make sure that she didn’t expose her underwear on tv.
Last series Amanda famously had a wardrobe malfunction during the BGT final that ended up getting more exposure than the show’s winners managed.
Amanda’s dresses on BGT this season have also been attracting plenty of attention and tonight’s was probably the star of the show. She wore a long sparkly gown by Samuel Douglas that showed plenty of cleavage and clung to her body. The designer is a favourite of hers and he has previously designed outfits for Beyonce, Madonna and Rihanna.
As tonight is the Britain’s Got Talent final we are likely to be seeing a lot less of Amanda on our tvs over the next few months although there is still the anticipated World’s Got Talent show. This will feature the winning acts from several of the international versions of Got Talent and as well as Amanda the judging panel will also feature Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum. No date for screening is yet available for the show, which is to be hosted by Britain’s Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec.
This year’s Britain’s Got Talent series has fared better than last years and in fact the opening show got an audience of some 11m viewers the show’s highest ever opening figures. However some are tiring a little of the format despite the producers adding more variety of acts to the mix. This year’s finalists included a schoolboy duo rapping about their experiences of playground bullying as well as a man escaping from a straitjacket before a bear trap snapped him in two on live television. Add to this a salsa dancing widow of 79-years old and the usual selection of singers and dance acts and you get the idea.
