Rihanna Picks Up Fashion Icon Award in Totally See-Through Dress – it is often said that Rihanna appears naked more often than she is clothed but she still managed to surprise us with her totally see-through dress at last night’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards.
The 26-year old singer picked up the Fashion Icon award and we wonder if her invite was worded “please turn up in a totally see-through dress for any onlookers who have not seen your nipples yet”.
Her only concession to modesty was a small pair of flesh-coloured knickers although from the rear even they were hard to spot.
The dress was a specially made design by Adam Selman and featured 216k Swarovski crystals. She finished off her look with a crystal embellished bandana and a fur stole that was rarely used to cover any part of her body.
As you would expect at a fashion awards evening hers was not the only outfit of note but it must be said that anyone who spent a long time pondering over their choice of gown for the CFDAs is probably regretting it this morning. The attendees who most impressed with their outfits last night included Emmy Rossum who wore a green dress designed by J Mendel, Joan Smalls, Hilary Rhoda, Chanel Iman and Blake Lively.
After impressing us all during the long movie awards season earlier this year actress Lupita Nyong’o picked a fashion awards event to wear her least flattering outfit. Let’s hope that now she has won her Oscar this is not what her future fashion choices will turn out like.
Whilst Lupita’s choice for the evening failed because of its garish colours the Olsen twins failed because their almost identical black outfits were just far too dull. This was a shame as they actually won the Accessory Designer of the Year award so missed out on a good opportunity to showcase their normally good styling.
Amongst the other award recipients was Tom Ford who took home the Geoffrey Beane Lifetime Achievement Award. Tom is a favourite of the CFDA having previously won the International Award, the Board of Directors Special Tribute Award as well as the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award and the Menswear Designer of the Year Awards.
