Artem Chigvintsev and James Jordan Leave Strictly – the BBC has confirmed that James Jordan will not be part of this year’s Strictly series and also announced that Artem Chigvintsev will also be leaving the show.
It had been widely reported that James Jordan would not be part of the new look Strictly Come Dancing and his regular dispute with both management and judges that were played out on social media can have done little to endear the dancer to the show’s producers. It was however a big surprise that Artem is not to be part of the 2014 Strictly series. The Russian born dancer is a big favourite on the show and won the 2010 series (his first) with partner Kara Tointon.
Artem has apparently been drawn by what we imagine is the bigger money on offer for the US version of the format, Dancing With The Stars. There will no doubt be much talk as to the strength of Artem’s relationship with Kara as he will be spending a lot of his time in the US. Interestingly Artem was in a relationship with Dancing With Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba (15 years his senior) from 2006-8.
It will come as some relief to many UK males that despite James leaving the show his Polish born wife Ola Jordan is to remain as part of the Strictly team. She has become a firm favourite over the years she has been a professional although we imagine this next series could prove something of a strain as it will be the first she takes part in without James. No news yet as to what his plans are following his Strictly departure.
As far as replacement dance professionals go the BBC have announced that joining the series this year will be Kevin Clifton’s sister Joanne as well as Tristan MacManus who has worked on Dancing With The Stars for the past few series and partnered Pamela Anderson.
It is good to report that popular Australian dance pro Natalie Lowe will be returning this year after being forced to miss the last series due to injury.
Strictly’s executive producer Louise Rainbow said of the changes in dance professionals: “We’re delighted that Joanne and Tristan will be joining our fantastic cast of professional dancers this year and look forward to them becoming part of the Strictly family.”
“A huge thank you goes out to both Artem and James for being hardworking, dedicated dancers on the show, and we wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.”
