British Soap Awards Winners – ITV’s Coronation Street had a very good night picking up a total of 9 awards although this did not include the top award of Best Soap.

As expected the strong storyline about Hayley Cropper’s battle with cancer gave Corrie the most dramatic moments of the year of all the soaps. The performances of Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Neilson proved to unbeatable this year and they walked away with the awards for Best Actress and Best Actor.

In addition to winning the top individual prizes of the night Julie and David also took home an award for Best On-Screen Partnership. Their storyline was responsible for Best Dramatic Performance (David Neilson), Best Storyline and the episode which contained Hayley’s death scene also took home the award for Best Single Episode.

The BBC will be less than pleased with their share of tonight’s awards as their flagship soap Eastenders managed only 2 awards, Best Newcomer for Maddy Hill and Best Off-Screen Achievement for the show’s Company Manager Carolyn Weinstein.

The night’s premier prize of Best Soap went to C4’s Hollyoaks which also took home prizes for Best Villain (Anna Passey), Best Young Performance (Ellis Hollins) and Sexiest Male (Danny Mac).

As it has done for the last few years the award for Sexiest Female again went to Coronation Street’s Michelle Keegan.
