67 Year Old Cher Still Wearing See-Through Bodysuit For Final Tour – as if the fans would expect any different, 67-year old Cher is still wearing an almost identical see-through black bodysuit as she did for her concerts 25 years ago.
The singer has said that this will definitely be her last tour and she is certainly going out with a bang as last night’s opener in Phoenix, Arizona was just the first concert in a 49 night North American tour. The tour is called”Dressed To Kill” and there was never any doubt that Cher would be up to the fashion challenge that the title set her.
There was a last-minute worry for Cher though as she fund out just a few days ago that designer Bob Mackie, who has been behind her stage and awards outfits for over 40 years, was not able to design the singer’s clothes for her final tour. Despite agreeing to design Cher’s outfits when the tour was first announced last year Mackie found that he was unable to honour the commitment due to his many other obligations saying: ‘There simply was not enough time to give this wonderful project the proper amount of care and attention it deserves.’
Bob Mackie has been something of a diva specialist over his career having worked with legends such as Tina Turner, Diana Ross and Liza Minelli as well as Cher. He is probably best-known as the designer of Cher’s infamous 1986 Oscar’s outfit which featured a strange black wig-cum-hat creation and the even better known and even more infamous 1988 Oscar’s outfit which was an almost completely see-through creation and is not too far removed from one of her stage outfits for the Dressed To Kill tour. Incidentally the 1988 Oscar’s outfit got even more publicity as this was the year that Cher won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in the romantic drama Moonstruck.
Cher has talked about her nerves about going on stage for this final tour but the reviews for the first Phoenix show have been very good so far. As you would expect for a final farewell tour she is covering hits from all parts of her career including Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves, The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss), I Got You Babe, Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time.
Her career certainly gives her plenty of major hits to choose from as Cher is the only artist to have a Number 1 on a Billboard chart in each of the last 6 decades. If that isn’t a good back catalogue then what is.
As well as the black see-through bodysuit Cher also wore a Cleopatra style gold outfit, a feather and red mini-dress combination as well as a bright Native American inspired outfit amongst her many costume changes. even without Bob Mackie on board Cher is working hard to ensure that the stage outfits are up to her usual dramatic standards.
Cher has a host of supporting acts to help her during the Dressed To Kill tour with Pat Benatar amongst those performing in Phoenix and other acts during the tour set to include Cyndi Lauper. In fact the support was so good for the opening show that when she first took to the stage Cher described herself as the ‘weak link of the evening.’
The Dressed To Kill Tour is scheduled to finish on 11 July with a concert at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.
