The BBC1 Controller Charlotte Moore has been talking about the show with The Sunday Times and revealed that she will be holding talks with the 86-year old presenter on his return in April from his annual holiday in Puerto Rico.
Moore admitted that it was important to have “the conversation” with Sir Bruce and said ‘Strictly is a phenomenon of British television and very robust. But it isn’t about one presenter.’
As you would expect the rumours as to who will be the next co-presenter with Tess Daly have already begun even before any official announcement of Bruce’s departure. As it stands it looks as though the bookmakers believe the next Strictly presenter is likely to be pro-dancer Anton Du Beke. Anton is something of a young Brucie in style so it would make for an easy transition. He has always said that one of his favourite Strictly moments was his dance routine with Bruce Forsyth to “Me and My Shadow” during the Strictly series of 2008.
Interestingly the short list of possible contenders for the Strictly job is much the same as when Brucie was talked about departing back in 2012. As well as Anton Du Beke there is also Graham Norton, John Barrowman and Claudia Winkleman in the frame.
Opinions are bound to be divided but we do know 2 things about the possible contenders: one that Anton would be the most simple Brucie-like swap to make and two that Claudia has proved herself well up to the job when standing in for Bruce on the results show and also when she had to stand in at short notice when he went sick during the last series.
We guess this is another story that has got plenty of miles in it yet. Anyway Bruce may not be so keen to leave just yet and Charlotte Moore has said that any decision made will be a mutual one.
