2014 Oscar Winners and Vanity Fair Photos – last night saw Hollywood’s biggest party of the year with the awards going pretty much as everyone predicted.
This year has been something of a done deal as even a few weeks ago we were all fairly sure that some of the Academy Award categories were already a foregone conclusion. There were few people willing to bet against Jared Leto in the Best Supporting Actor category, Lupita Nyong’o for Best Supporting Actress or Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor.
However there was one category which was the least well contested for many years, with the majority of critics hailing Cate Blanchett’s performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine as an Oscar-winning one as long ago as last September. This is all the more remarkable when one sees that she was up against 3 real acting heavyweights and former Oscar winners in Judi Dench, Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep.
The movie that had the most overall success this year was Gravity which won 7 awards in total including a Best Director award for Alfonso Cuaron, who became the first Latin American to win the Best Director Oscar.
It was a disappointing evening for both Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle which failed to move enough Academy members to win any of the awards on offer despite the 2 movies having a total of 15 nominations between them. Leonardo DiCaprio was the bridesmaid yet again and there are some who wonder if his time will ever come as regards a Best Actor Oscar.
Fashion-wise most of the more interesting action came courtesy of the famous post Oscars Vanity Fair party in West Hollywood. There were a few fashion related events of note at the main event however with Jennifer Lawrence following up last year’s Oscar trip with another tumble, this time on the red carpet outside the theatre.
Another event of interest occurred whilst Sherlock and 12 Years A Slave star Benedict Cumberbatch was being interviewed with his female minder spending the entire time he was on camera showing more and more cleavage in her very revealing black evening gown.
At the Vanity Fair party Karlie Kloss grabbed the most attention with her long black evening gown that was cut dangerously low at the front and had plenty of cut away panels in the rear that all went to prove the Victoria’s Secret model was not only not wearing any lingerie for the evening she was clearly not wearing any underwear at all.
Karlie was closely followed in the attention-grabbing stakes by Irina Shayk who wore a tight fitting mermaid style gown that was see-through enough up top to show the Sports Illustrated model’s nipples.
