Jeremy Irons To Be Alfred and Jesse Eisenberg To Be Lex Luther In New Superman Batman Movie – although he was talked about as a possible choice some while ago it has still surprised many people that Jeremy Irons has been chosen for the role of Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred.
The two actors were confirmed in the roles earlier today and it goes to prove that director Zack Snyder and his team are serious about the movie.
Although he has played many great roles during his career Jeremy Irons brings a touch of the heavyweight respected actor about him to the production, having previously won a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Claus von Bülow in the 1990 movie Reversal of Fortune.
Fellow cast member Jesse Eisenberg, who will play Lex Luthor, is still best-known for his role as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network and has received much support from fans who were hoping to have a Lex Luthor cast who was a similar age to Superman. Eisenberg is 30-years old, exactly the same age as Superman actor Henry Cavill.
Cavill will be returning to the role of Superman having played the part in last year’s Man of Steel movie. Other MoS actors returning for the new movie include Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane and Amy Adams. The part of Batman in the new movie will be played by Ben Affleck as previously announced.
Director Snyder is obviously pleased to have landed Irons for the role of Alfred and said today: ‘It is an honour to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.’
Although referred to as Batman/Superman the new movie has not officially been given a title yet and we would guess that they will probably come up with something a little more interesting than Batman/Superman.
Scenes for the new movie are still being written and it has a current expected worldwide release date of 6 May 2016.
