The Jump, C4’s New Dangerous Reality Show – just like dress choices are getting more risky to get attention it seems the same is happening to tv reality shows.
Tomorrow sees the first episode of C4’s new winter sports The Jump which will see a group of celebrities compete against each other in a range of different activities such as the skeleton bobsleigh, an event which has been described as like hurling yourself down a lethal ice track on a tea tray at around 100mph.
Other events include speed skating, slalom, 2-man bobsleigh, cross-country skiing but perhaps most excitingly at the end of each time trial the 2 celebrities who come last will have to compete against each other in a live ski jump which sees them reach speeds of 40mph before they effectively jump off a mountain to see who can go furthest and stay in the show.
The show’s hosts are Alex Brooker from C4’s The Last Leg and that favourite of reality show hosting Davina McCall. Davina described the new show as ‘an entertainment programme that will have you clenching your buttocks so hard that you won’t need to visit the gym for a month! There’s going to be danger, excitement, competition, highs and lows, tears and laughter, it’s all in The Jump.’
Although some of the celebs, such as Olympic hero Sir Steve Redgrave and Anthea Turner, are no strangers to the slopes others such as TOWIE’s Amy Childs and Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt have never been on a ski slope before. If it looks and sounds dangerous then it is no surprise to hear that there have already been a lot of pre-show injuries including some broken bones. In fact the show was viewed as being too dangerous for ITV who decided not to air it 2 years ago.
There are the usual mixture of celebrities with some different faces thrown in as well. Amongst those competing are some with reality sports themed experience, Anthea Turner and Sinitta have both appeared on Dancing On Ice and Darren Gough actually won Strictly Come Dancing. Alongside them are vajazzle girl Amy Childs and 90s Page 3 favourite Melinda Messenger who have no previous experience of this sort of competition
The competitors in The Jump are:
Sir Steve Redgrave
The Jump airs live for 10 successive nights on C4 starting tomorrow (26 January) at 8pm.
