Have We Seen Ola Jordan’s Last Strictly Dance? – much as we predicted yesterday it was actually safer to be at the bottom of the leaderboard than mid-table as Ashley Taylor Dawson and dance partner Ola Jordan saw themselves eliminated from the series tonight.
It seems that BBC Breakfast presenter Susanna Reid does indeed have a lot of public support as they avoided the dance-off despite trailing all the other competitors after the judges had scored last night’s dances.
Joining Ashley and Ola in the dance-off tonight were Casualty actor Patrick Robinson and his dance partner Anya Garnis. Despite Patrick’s Rumba gaining a maximum 10 points from Darcey Bussell it appears the British public were less impressed by the routine.
Both pairings put everything they had into the dance-off although Ashley failed to pull off the final ambitious lift that her managed during Saturday night’s programme. Patrick appeared to be more fluent in his movement than he did on Saturday and from the remarks made by the first 3 judges it looked like being a unanimous decision.
However when they went to check if head judge Len Goodman agreed with his fellow judges verdicts on the dance-off there was something of a surprise response. Len was quite vocal in his support for Ashley and Ola and went so far as to say ‘I totally disagreed with this verdict.’
It seems that Len was less than impressed by Patrick committing what he thought to be the cardinal sin in a Rumba i.e. stepping forward on the heel. He said ‘There is never a heel lead. Unfortunately, on that last routine that we saw, Patrick did many and on that basis I would have 100% gone for you (Ashley and Ola).’
It also looks very much like we may have seen our last sighting of Ola Jordan as a Strictly professional dancer. As reported before she had a big row with fellow professional Karen Hauer and the show’s management team had to work hard to convince Ola to carry on in that week’s show. Her husband James Jordan has also recently announced that they are not going to be part of next year’s Strictly Live Tour and they are to tour the UK with their own Latin show next year.
Ola has since revealed that the reason she will not be part of next year’s Strictly Tour is that her celebrity partner Ashley is unable to get sufficient time off from his commitments to Hollyoaks.
Ola has been talking about her future plans and has admitted that she is still unsure if she will return to Strictly after this year. The professional dancers are said to receive around £30k for their time on the series whereas the celebrities are believed to get a minimum £25k even of eliminated straight away and this figure rises to £60k for quarter finalists, £75k for the semi finalists and the winner will receive £100k on top of all that positive publicity.
Another reason Ola’s husband James has not endeared himself to those on the show is that in the last series he said to the media when asked about the professional dancers level of pay compared to the judges ‘We get paid probably a third of what they get. We do seven days a week, 12 hours a day, they rock up on a Saturday, slag a few people off and go home.’
Sadly taking all these things into account it is looking more and more likely that we will not be seeing the lovely Ola on our screens next year on a Saturday night.
