Jessie J also took advantage of the large crowd to sing a couple of her songs, entertaining the large number who turned up with her big hit Price Tag as well as her new song Thunder.
For such a big media event it is always hard to know what to wear and Jessie decided on a see-through black top with a pair of bright red trousers.
Whilst she was singing Jessie wore a different outfit consisting of a black leotard style top matched with a see-through netting style skirt.
She was joined at tonight’s event by X Factor winner James Arthur and another fellow singer, Conor Maynard.
Jessie was clearly delighted to be given the honour of turning on the Oxford Street lights this year and tweeted later on: ‘I did it! I performed on a stage really high up! I faced my fear! Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who came out and sang with me and made it less scary! #xmaslights #selfridges #oxfordstreet.’
For the musical part of the evening’s entertainment Jessie performed on the roof canopy at Selfridge’s flagship store on Oxford Street.
Last year it was Robbie Williams who was chosen to switch on the famous Oxford Street Christmas Lights and previous years have seen the likes of The Saturdays, Leona Lewis, Emma Watson and the Spice Girls chosen to perform this task.
