Dancing With The Stars Reveals Cast For Season 17 – just a few hours after its UK counterpart, Strictly Come Dancing, revealed its new cast of celebrities for the latest series the ABC show has shown the public their new celebrity dancers.
The full line-up was revealed earlier today on ABC’s own Good Morning America show. THe cast is sure to contain at least one celebrity to appeal to everyone in the house as it features a wide range of ages with people drawn from all parts of the entertainment as well as the world of sports.
The biggest talking point today was definitely the announcement that 74-year old actress Valerie Harper would be part of the new cast for Season 17 of the show. Valerie announced this January that she had been given a terminal brain cancer diagnosis. Valerie, who achieved huge fame as Rhoda Morgenstern in classic 70’s series The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Such was the Popularity of the character that a spin-off series entitled simply Rhoda. This was a massive success and its ratings even went on to beat The Mary Tyler Moore Show with the series winning 2 Golden Globes and 2 Emmys.
Valerie has been encouraged by some more positive brain scans in recent weeks and said of her inclusion in the show that she hopes that it might prove ‘inspiring to people to see a 74-year-old woman with terminal cancer dancing’.
Also competing in the new Dancing With The Stars series is Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi from MTV shows Jersey Shore and Snooki and JWoww. 25-year old Snooki gave birth to a son Lorenzo a year ago and has recently been showing off her post baby figure. The training for the new series is sure to help things even more.
Leah Remini has recently been making headlines following her split from the Church of Scientology but will be hoping that her dance moves get the headlines instead in the upcoming weeks. She is also known for her appearances in both The King of Queens and The Talk.
Other cast members include the Science Guy himself, Bill Nye, Jack Osbourne, NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, Glee star Amber Riley, singer Christina Milan and Showgirls actress Elizabeth Berkley.
The new series starts with a 2 hr special on Monday 16 September. The front of house team of presenters Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke Charvet as well as judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba is unchanged from last series.
