The 67-year old has been confirmed to appear on the season finale of NBC’s The Voice on June 18th. Her last live television performance was on VH1’s Divas Las Vegas show in 2002.
She has been a star for many years being the only person to have a No 1 single on the Billboard charts in each of the last 6 decades.
As well as this she is also the only person to have won all of the following: an Academy Award (Moonstruck 1988), a Grammy Award (Believe 1999), An Emmy Award (Cher – The Farewell Tour 2003), a Golden Globe Award (You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me from Burlesque 2010), and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival (Mask 1985).
Cher will be performing the song Woman’s World on the show, a track from her new album of the same name, which is due to be released this September. The Woman’s World album is Cher’s first new album release since her 2001 album Living Proof.
Living Proof featured several tracks that made use of the Auto Tune vocal software which was first heard on her 1998 hit single Believe. This new recording technique became known as the “Cher effect” and was later used by many other recording artists such as T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dog and Kanye West. There have also been plenty of people speaking out against the use of Auto Tune including Christina Aguilera and Jay-Z.
The X Factor had to stop using Auto Tune for its competitors in 2010 after it was revealed that several performances had been “enhanced” by using the software. After enraged viewers took to Twitter to air their concerns Simon Cowell ordered that the software not be used for any future episodes of the show. It was also discovered that the Auto Tune software had been used on Cowell’s other show Britain’s Got Talent, and may have even been used on the famous first audition by Susan Boyle.
Apart from her music Cher is also famous for her penchant for plastic surgery. Although she has admitted to having had work done on her nose, teeth and breasts there are many rumours that she has also had surgery on her cheeks and buttocks as well as having a rib removed. Cher’s comment on the topic of plastic surgery is “If I want to put my tits on my back, it’s nobody’s business but my own.”
Incidentally if anyone thought that Cher’s private life was complicated then it looks quite pedestrian when compared to her mother’s. Cher’s mother Jackie has been married 8 times (marrying 2 of her husbands twice) and her own mother was just 13-years old when she gave birth to her in 1926.
