The new movie, which is directed by Baz Luhrmann, stars Carey Mulligan as Daisy and Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby.
The new trailer shows how the two lovers rekindled their love affair after a gap of 5 years apart. It also explains the circumstances behind their separation.
Luhrmann is well used to directing movies where there is a need to recreate a period feel as he is still most closely associated with Moulin Rouge which was set in Paris in the years around 1900. The Great Gatsby is set in America during the 1920’s and there is plenty of scope for lavish costumes and set decoration. Helping Luhrmann get the right feel for the movie is double Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin who previously worked on Moulin Rouge with him.
As well as DiCaprio and Mulligan the new movie also features performances from Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan and Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson. Music for the movie promises to be a further draw as the soundtrack has been worked on by Luhrmann and JayZ with the aim of recreating the excitement of the 20’s audience on hearing jazz for the first time.
The artists performing on the Great Gatsby soundtrack include Beyonce, Nero, Bryan Ferry, The xx and Lana Del Rey.
The movie is due for general release on 10 May and you can catch up with the trailer by clicking the link below.
