Strictly’s Karen Hauer In See-Through Dress – at this stage in the series everyone has to pull out all the stops to stay in the dance contest and Karen Hauer showed that she is certainly keen to show she means business.
Karen, who is the professional dance partner of Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, stole the fashion first place this evening as she wowed the audience and tv viewers with her mostly see-through black lace dress.
The couple were dancing the Argentine Tango which is acknowledged as the sexiest dance performed in the competition and Karen was obviously keen to turn up the heat with this dance.
Venezualan dancer Hauer is a new professional for Strictly and is better known as a Latin dance specialist and is World Mambo champion. She came to Strictly after winning many fans with her performances in the US television series So You Think You Can Dance. Karen is the Strictly pro dancer replacement for the Lithuanian dancer Katya Viirshilas who had been with Strictly since 2009.
Karen and Nicky kept their Argentine Tango music choice very current by dancing to Adele’s new Bond theme to Skyfall. The judges quite liked their rendition but Len thought that it was more like a classic Tango than an Argentine Tango.
Strangest comment of the night comes from Darcey Bussell who says to Nicky after their dance ‘I would have liked a more lustful Nicky towards Karen in those moves. You can get a little bit hard and it has to be a bit more sensual.’
The best performance of the night undoubtedly comes from Louis Smith and partner Flavia Cacace who danced the Charleston to Dr Wanna Do by Caro Emerald. After some acting lessons on the week for Louis he finally got some good comments from the judges about releasing more emotion in his performance. This and some great acrobatic moves meant that the pair scored 37 points from the judges including the first perfect 10’s for Louis.
Their score for their Charleston was enough to take them to the top of this week’s leaderboard ahead of Denise Van Outen who for once didn’t look totally in control. It has to be said that her professional dance partner James Jordan must take some of the blame for this as he seemed to forget part of their Salsa routine tonight and they only managed to score 32 from the judges with all 4 scoring the pair 8 points.
On the strength of tonight’s performances it looks very much like we will be seeing Michael Vaughan and Natalie Lowe dance their Samba again as despite improving his Latin technique over the last few weeks Michael is still much weaker in the Latin dances than he is with his ballroom.
