Colin and Kristina Leave As Strictly Wins The Ratings War – Colin Salmon and Kristina Rihanoff became the latest couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing tonight as their dance-off routine failed to impress the judges.
Bond actor Colin and Kristina were up against showbiz gossip reporter Richard Arnold and his partner Erin Boag. Richard and Erin had what Craig refers to as a “dance disaaaster darling” on Saturday’s show when Richard forgot most of his moves and lost timing on those he did remember. We have a personal theory that he was distracted by Erin Boag’s revealing low-cut dress. Who knew she was hiding a body like that under those ballroom outfits she wears with Anton du Beke?
In the dance-off tonight Richard and Erin pulled off a massively improved performance with their foxtrot to Shirley Bassey’s “Big Spender.” By contrast Colin and Kristina had a far more shaky time with their foxtrot which they danced to Aretha Franklin’s “Ac-Cent-Chu-Ate The Positive.”
Kristina clearly knew they were in trouble as they waited for the judges to critique their performances as she could barely look up from the floor. It was soon clear that it was going to be Richard and Erin who were going through to fight another day.
Craig Revel Horwood summed up the feelings of his fellow judges saying: “Well one couple in the dance-off was better, and one couple was worse. It just proves that can happen, and the pressure is enormous. But based on this performance alone, the couple I would like to save is Richard and Erin.”
Colin was magnanimous in defeat saying of his experience on Strictly: ‘I’ve got to say without question, this is one of the greatest shows I’ve ever been involved in. The quality of the competitors this year is seminal.”
“I’m going to miss Kristina, she is an amazing dancer, a pre-eminent dancer in her field, she’s taught me many many things. That’s going to be the biggest thing.”
Colin and Kristina leave the show as figures show that Strictly is beating its ITV rival X Factor by 2 million viewers on a Saturday night. The ITV show is around 4 million viewers light of the number who were watching the show when Simon Cowell was last on the judging panel. This may add further weight to the current theories that are saying Cowell wants to return to his original panel of judges to re-ignite interest in the show.
Strictly’s lead over X Factor is the biggest it has had in 6 years and is a welcome, if small, piece of good news as it struggles in the wake of the Jimmy Savile sex scandal.
