The Sacha Gervasi directed movie is set during the filming of classic thriller Psycho and tells the love story between Hitchcock played by Sir Anthony Hopkins and wife Alma Reville played by Dame Helen Mirren. It also shows the many problems encountered by Hitchcock during filming and getting the movie into production in the first place.
It has recently been announced that the US release date for Hitchcock has been brought forward from next year to 23 November this year. At the moment there has been no news on an earlier release date in the UK so as it stands we will have to wait until 08 February 2013 to see this intriguing movie.
The stills released by Fox Searchlight show Johansson, Hopkins, Mirren and also James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, who played the part of disturbed killer Norman Bates in the original 1960 Psycho movie. In addition to the movie stills the company has also released the movie’s official poster which is unsurprisingly in the style of the original Hitchcock movies. As well as featuring Hopkins, Mirren, Johansson and D’Arcy the official movie poster also shows Jessica Biel who plays the part of US actress Vera Miles who was in the original Psycho movie as Janet Leigh’s sister. Incidentally Vera Miles is the only one of the main characters in Hitchcock who is still alive. She is currently 82-years old and will be most unlikely to pass comment on the new movie as she now refuses to give any interviews.
Early talk from production is that there are several Oscar worthy performances in the film and you can expect nominations for both Mirren and Hopkins if what we hear about their performances turns out to be true. Both Hitchcock and his wife Alma were strong characters and taking on the roles will no doubt bring out the best from both Dame Helen and Sir Anthony.
