Fitting in with London’s status as top fashion city there are plenty of highlights to look out for and there are plenty of celebrities and members of fashion royalty in residence for the week.
Despite the constant tales of economic woes it still seems to be a good time to be on the high-end fashion business. Over the coming 7 days there are expected to be orders placed with a value of around £100 million. You can add to this a recent report by Oxford Economics which states that over the last 10 years the sales of UK designer fashions have been rising by 20% per year and you get an idea how important London Fashion Week has become.
There have been some new developments this week as well as shows by established fashion houses such as Antoni & Alison. Helena Christensen has made her debut in London with a new lingerie collection for Triumph. The supermodel said: “London is a great fashion week city, full of great talent.”
Top UK fashion house Alexander McQueen has also picked London Fashion Week to launch its new McQ boutique on Dover Street. The McQ range features both womenswear and menswear and is (slightly) more affordable than the standard Alexander McQueen range of clothing. The new McQ store is on 3 levels and is a mixture of high-tech and boudoir fetish style. Amongst many high-tech features customers can take photos of themselves using a giant camera and then email them direct to friends or family for their comments.
Today saw the Topshop show which drew a number of well-known names to view the latest styles coming from the UK’s most popular high street fashion chain. Amongst the stars viewed in the audience were: Shenae Grimes, Elle Fanning, Olivia Palermo, Daisy Lowe, Laura Carmichael, Pixie Geldof and Nicola Roberts.
The Topshop show featured a new innovation for customers as in partnership with Facebook they provided a live stream from the catwalk which also featured a camera button allowing users to capture any of the new Topshop Unique styles and share it with friends online.
The Topshop Unique spring/summer 2013 collection went down well with the audience with Daisy Lowe tweeting after the show: ‘Loved the clean beautiful shapes and prints at topshop… All easy to wear, effortless chic. Very proud of @kate_phelan 🙂 xxx.’
Other big events over the weekend included the Moschino Cheap and Chic Show. This attracted Kelly Brook, Pixie Lott, Alexa Chung and there was another appearance from Daisy Lowe and Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts. On the catwalk the new Moschino look got the thumbs up from most of the audience while amongst the celebs it was Pixie Lott who was seen as the best dressed in the front row.
