Duchess of Cambridge Topless Photos – after the publication of a series of topless photos of the Duchess, taken when she and the Duke were on holiday in Provence, the royal couple have started legal proceedings against the French magazine Closer.
The legal action should be no surprise to the owners of Closer as the Duchess has always made it clear that she values her privacy. Before she married she took action against a photo agency who took pictures of her playing tennis in private.
It seems that non-royals marrying into the House of Windsor are seen as targets by some sections of the media as shortly before her marriage to Prince Edward the Countess of Wessex (then Sophie Rhys-Jones) had a topless photo of her with broadcaster Chris Tarrant published in The Sun. Unlike the photos of Kate, Sophie’s photo was taken at close range by a former friend.
The other case where legal action was initiated involved the Duke’s mother, Princess Diana, who began proceedings against the owners of a gym where photos were taken of her using a concealed camera. Diana settled out of court in this instance.
William is furious at the publication of the topless photos of his new wife and it is clear that he is keen to protect Kate from the sort of intense pressure that his mother was put under by the press.
The official statement on the matter from St James’s Palace said: “Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner. The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so.
“Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them. Officials acting on behalf of their Royal Highnesses are consulting with lawyers to consider what options may be available to the Duke and Duchess.”
The editor of Closer, Laurence Pieau has insisted there is nothing wrong with publishing the photos which she says show a 21st Century princess who is in love and sunbathing topless like millions of other women do. She has shown no remorse over the photos and even said that there are other more intimate photos that they have not published. Pieau insists that any editor would have published the photos in a moment given the chance but it is believed that UK publications were offered the photos first and turned them down.
We will not post the photos here for obvious reasons but if you want to see intimate photos of a lady from the Middleton clan then check out our earlier article on Kate’s cousin who posed naked for Playboy magazine recently.
