When Winston Howes’ wife died suddenly 17 years ago, he immediately began planning a remarkable tribute to their 33 years of marriage. The farmer, who is now 70-years old, began planting young trees in a six-acre field on his property but kept a perfect, heart-shaped meadow in the center that pointed toward their childhood home in Wotton Hill.
The meadow, which is surrounded by thousands of oak trees, is hidden from ground-level view, but Howes’ design was spotted when a hot air balloon travelled over the farm and a passenger took some photos of the beautiful memorial.
Howes said he regularly goes into the meadow just to sit and think, and added, “It is a lovely and lasting tribute to her which will be here for years.”
There are several thousand trees in Howes’ heart-shaped tribute to his wife. He plants daffodils in the centre of the heart which come out in the spring and says this is a wonderful sight.
He has seen the acre sized tribute to his wife from above when a friend flew him over the field 5 years ago.
You can look at the tribute from above yourself if you flying or ballooning near Wickwar in South Gloucestershire where Mr Howes 112 acre is located.
We can’t think of a better tribute from a husband to his late wife since Shah Jahan built The Taj Mahal in Agra in lasting memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Porn again not born again – a hotel in the Lake District has replaced its bedside copies of the bible with copies of mummy porn bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey.
The manager of the Damson Dene Hotel, near Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria, decided that he would spice up the contents of his guests bedside drawers.
Wayne Bartholomew said that he was influenced in his decision by the many comments he had read about the book from friends on Facebook.
He said: “I thought it would be a special treat for our guests to find it in their bedside cabinets, and that includes the men.
The cynical amongst us may well think the bible for porn swap is just a good bit of free publicity for the hotel. Although it gets very good reviews on Trip Advisor it still only ranks as 9th amongst the 20 hotels in the area. The hotel is quoted as having a gym and swimming pool but as yet there is no mention of an s&m dungeon.
