Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Melanie Chisholm all joined up at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel to launch the new show today. The hotel is of special interest to Spice Girls fans as it was featured in the video for their debut single Wannabe with the girls being seen running all round the staircases and public rooms. The video was famous for two things: Mel C did a very acrobatic back handspring on a table and the video got banned in a number of countries in Asia that were not happy that Mel B’s stiff nipples could clearly be seen through her thin green top. The group later commented that it was very cold when they were filming.
The Spices were joined at today’s launch by producer Judy Craymer, who was the force behind hit musical Mamma Mia, and Jennifer Saunders who wrote the show but is better known here as Edina from Ab Fab and one half of comedy duo French & Saunders.
In today’s shot of the girls you have a further idea of how life has changed for them with two of the girls wearing outfits they helped design. Geri was wearing a short pink dress from her Geri at Next collection and Posh was wearing surprise, surprise something from the latest VB collection, a buttoned up military style dress.
Viva Forever will tell the story of a young girl and her friends who find overnight success and it features many of the group’s 90’s hits including Wannabe, Two Become One and Spice Up Your Life. The musical is also going to show how such sudden success impacts on them personally and in their relationships with their friends and families.
All the girls took to Twitter this morning to help publicise the show. They are said to be all getting involved with auditions for the main roles in the musical and will also all be present at the official opening night at the Piccadilly Theatre on 11 December.
Previews for the show begin on 27 November.
As well as a good sense of humour one thing sure to get a lady’s attention is a pot load of money and it seems that Prince Azim is quite happy to splash the cash to impress a lady.
His guest list for the evening, which was held at the Dorchester Hotel in London (owned by his father the Sultan), was heavy on attractive older women and then almost as heavy on attractive younger women. There appeared to be precious few men who received one of his golden party invitations.
From the world of film there was Raquel Welch, who wore a very low-cut black top showing a black bra and masses of cleavage, and looked nothing like her 71-years. Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei was also invited as was the Baywatch/Barb Wire star Pamela Anderson who seemed to be one of the Prince’s favourites on the evening from the amount of time he spent with her. Another guest from the world of movies was Network and Chinatown star Faye Dunaway, also 71 but wearing a much more modest outfit than Raquel’s.
From the music world guests included Burt Bacharach favourite Dionne Warwick who was the only star on the evening to do any work as she treated guests to a very exclusive performance. Another singer to be invited was Mariah Carey who lived up to her high-demanding reputation by apparently being flown in and out of London especially for the party on a private jet organised by the Prince. She is obviously one of Prince Azim’s favourite ladies as she was believed on a different occasion to have received a gift of diamonds from him worth around $6m.
Attractive older film stars and singers really only leaves you with attractive older models to invite so guess what Jerry Hall was on the guest list. She also arrived with daughter Lizzie Jagger who must have spoilt the boy/girl ratio by bringing along boyfriend Evgeny Lebedev. One of the very few men invited to the bash was Glee star Matthew Morrison who came along with his stunning model girlfriend Renee Puente.
Prince Azim is famed for his extravagant parties with his most famous before last night’s being his 2009 do for his 27th birthday. Guests at this party included Faye Dunaway and Mariah Carey from last night’s list as well as Janet Jackson, Sophia Loren, Ursula Andress and Joan Collins. This party, which was held at luxury country house Stapleford Park was dubbed at the time “the party of the year.” The cost of the whole event can be measured by the fact that the bill for flowers alone exceeded £70k.
When he is not enjoying himself in the company of busty, famous older ladies he does think of others less fortunate than him (nearly everyone!). He spends much of his time getting involved with charity work especially for charities for the disabled. He has helped Naomi Campbell raise money for Fashion for Relief as well as being one of the patrons of the UK’s Make A Wish Foundation, a charity helping to make dreams come true for young children living with life-threatening conditions.
