Selena is seen lounging on a beach in a red bikini top and graces the cover of the mag wearing a stylish Dolce & Gabbana outfit. She shows that she loves dressing up with other photos in the spread revealing her in a red Lanvin dress paired with Manolo Blahnik shoes, and the photo here shows Selena wearing a stunning Yves Saint Laurent dress with plunge front and to dress it up even more she is wearing jewellery from Tiffany.
Her latest movie is taking her a long way from her days on Wizards of Waverly Place. Spring Breakers is directed by Harmony Korine and is about four college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for a holiday. Having been caught they are bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants a little something from them in return.
Spring Breakers also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and James Franco, who Selena says has a very strong work ethic which she envies. Selena said of her role in the indie movie: “I want to take myself seriously as an actress, and this was definitely a stretch.” The movie is due out some time next year.
It is no surprise that as well as talking about movies and fashion Selena was asked about her relationship with boyfriend Justin Bieber. Although she does not say anything especially revealing she does say that Justin is a hopeless romantic. She describes how after she said she would like to see the movie Titanic again he hired out the Staples Center for a private screening. “I had just mentioned it in the car — all I said is that I really want to see Titanic again, and then…”
The big news for the UK is that James Corden won the Best Leading Actor Award for his role in the comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, which transferred from the West End to Broadway earlier this year. The actor is still best known here for the show Gavin and Stacey which he starred in and co-wrote with Ruth Jones. This award might change that as it significantly raises his profile in the US.
You can get some measure of the importance of the Tony Award for Corden when you see a list of the actors that he beat, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Lithgow, Frank Langella and James Earl Jones. Corden described his fellow nominees as “four of the finest actors alive”.
He was clearly very moved by his award and Corden gave some advice out to any actors starting off in the business: “There are lots of people who will tell you you’re too small, too big, too funny-looking… but the very fact I’m holding this should tell you none of that matters. If you don’t give up, you can’t fail.”
Another British winner on the night was director John Tiffany whose musical Once picked up 8 awards in total on the night. The musical is based on a great little 2006 movie about the relationship between an Irish busker and a Czech flower seller. The original move also picked up a number of awards including a 2007 Oscar for Best Original Song.
Hugh Jackman was presented with a Special Tony Award by his wife Deborra-Lee. He is no stranger to the Tony Awards as he has hosted the awards on 3 separate occasions and he also won the Tony Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Aussie songwriter Peter Allen in the musical The Boy From Oz.
Oh and in case you were wondering why it is called a Tony Award the full name of the award is the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, with the Antoinette being shortened over time to Tony. Antoinette Perry, who died in 1946, was the co-founder of the American Theatre Wing.
