MTV Movie Awards, The UK’s Biggest Selling Singles Acts

04 Jun

MTV Movie Awards – the big winner on the night was The Hunger Games which won 4 awards including Best Male and Best Female.

The evening was hosted by Russell Brand who made fun of many of the audience as well as having a joke at his own expense about the end of his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry ‘Last time I did an MTV show I ended up marrying someone,’ he told the audience. ‘Tonight I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for my next wife.

The Hunger Games won Best Fight Award for Jennifer Lawrence & Josh Hutcherson vs. Alexander Ludwig and the award for Best On-Screen Transformation went to Elizabeth Banks. Actress Jennifer Lawrence and actor Josh Hitcherson took the major male and female awards for the evening for their roles in The Hunger Games

35-year old US actor Joe Manganiello pleased a lot of women (and some men) in the audience when he turned up to present the Best On-Screen Transformation award to Elizabeth Banks dressed as a bare-chested American fireman. UK’s Biggest Selling Singles Act – it is no surprise that The Beatles have topped the list of top-selling acts since the UK Singles Chart began 60 years ago

The Official Charts Company’s release also coincides with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and it features mostly acts from some years ago with the exception of Rihanna who unexpectedly makes it into the list at Number 10 ahead of The Rolling Stones.

The Beatles topping the list is to be expected as they dominated the charts during their career and had a total of 17 Number 1 records. Although the UK Singles Chart is still very important there are now a number of other rankings such as torrents, downloads and YouTube hits which can now show how strong the support for acts is.

The Full Chart will be played today during a special show on Radio 2 presented by veteran dj Tony Blackburn.
