The singer turned some heads by showing up in a skin-tight rubber dress that looked like she had been sewn into and she was obviously wearing nothing underneath.
The single is from her debut album and is her first solo record since she signed up with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label 2 years ago.
She was joined at the launch party by her friend Tinie Tempah although it had been thought that she might show up with Canadian rapper Drake, who wrote the single. Rita has been busy denying any romance between the two, saying: “We’re really good friends actually … He has my back so it’s really nice to know I have a guy that’s a good friend like that.”
Rita was born in what is now Kosovo although she and her family moved to the UK when she was just a baby. Back in 2009 she auditioned to become the British Eurovision entry but withdrew after a few weeks as she did not feel ready at that stage.
It looks like we might well be seeing a lot of the singer over the next few months as she has already been involved with a Number 1 single this year, singing with DJ Fresh on Hot Right Now. She has also previously worked with both Craig David and Tinchy Stryder.
With her debut album Rita has been working with loads of people to make it sound as good as she can. As well as Drake she has been working with Will.I.Am, Stargate and Kanye West.
She was singing a track called The Prayer with Chris Mann, the classically trained opera singer on the programme when she almost escaped from her dress.
She has been acting as a coach on The Voice in the US since last month when the series started airing on NBC. Christina almost pulled out all the stops and a bit more in her bid to get a great performance out of Chris. For much of the performance he didn’t appear to know where to look.
Christina has always liked wearing daring outfits regardless of the occasion (just check out her stunning performance of At Last at Etta James funeral and see if you think many people would wear that outfit to a funeral).
There have been rumours throughout this series of The Voice that Christina has not exactly been easy company for the crew, fellow coaches or contestants to deal with. A number of unnamed sources have said that they think it is unlikely she will be asked back for another series as coach and she has had a public falling out with fellow coach Adam Levine and also Tony Lucca, one of the competitors who made it to this week’s final.
By the way last night’s final was not won by Christina’s protege but by Jermaine Paul, the former backing singer for Alicia Keys, who was mentored by Blake Shelton.
