The Met Ball is America’s fashion event of the year and tickets are highly prized. It is rumoured this year that model Kate Upton paid out around £15k to get hold of hers. Celebrities vie to impress in front of the great and the good of New York fashion with none bigger than Vogue editor Anna Wintour. In case you are wondering what Wintour wore to the evening it was a dress with a large gold lobster embroidered on it so you can guess that bigger and bolder is the order of the night not understated.
The winers of the style stakes on the night were reckoned to be actress Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren, Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan, Lea Michelle in Diane von Furstenberg and Emma Roberts in Escada.
It is traditional for Hollywood A-listers to have the designers of their evening outfits as their date for the night. Carey Mulligan hosted the evening and as Prada were being honoured on the night it was no surprise that she wore a Prada gown herself.
Amongst those who impressed less on the night was most surprisingly Beyonce, normally such a favourite on these occasions. She wore a rather strange outfit that seemed to be part body stocking and part feathers, which showed a large portion of the singer’s rear. Marc Jacobs wore a see-through black dress teemed with a pair of black shoes straight from a pantomime performance. Another normal A-lister in the fashion stakes is Scarlett Johansson who also failed to impress in her outfit, being described by one fashion critic as lookind “droopy.”
According to their site the singer will start filming in Ireland later this month. The new movie is said to be called All Is By My Side.
Directing the film is John Ridley who previously wrote Three Kings and he has also written the screenplay for this movie. The film shows how Hendrix was discovered playing in a New York club in 1966 by Linda Keith who was going out with Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards at the time.
Although there have been several attempts to make a movie of Hendrix’s short career over the years and the late guitarist’s estate has blocked all of them up until now. It is not yet known if they have agreed to let his songs be used in the new movie or if the director is going to take a very different approach and not actually use any of Hendrix’s songs.
The main part of the movie is going to show Hendrix working on his classic debut album Are You Experienced. It will focus on Hendrix in London during 1966 and 1967.
Andre 3000, who is likely to be billed in the movie under his real name of Andre Benjamin, is best-known here for the Outkast hit Hey Ya! although he does have a number of acting credits in movies and on tv including a role in Revolver, directed by Guy Ritchie.
There is no news yet of any UK release date for the film.
