World’s Best Dressed Women 2012, The Railway Man

27 Apr

World’s Best Dressed Woman 2012 – the annual list of most stylish women has seen the Twilight actress Kristen Stewart come out top of the pile.

The 22-year old seems to have put the cat among the pigeons with this latest award as she is not necessarily the first person you might think of when you say best dressed woman. One not unexpected new entrant on the list is the Duchess of Cambridge who goes straight into the list in 4th place.

Last year’s winner of the title was Emma Watson who this year goes down to 2nd place despite getting plenty of media attention over the last months for her stylish looks.

Another drop sees Cheryl Cole fall from last year’s 2nd place to 8th position in the list. She also has got a lot of great comments over the last 12 months in spite of her demotion. The last year saw Cheryl launch a new range of footwear.

Another former girl band member who has made her mark in the world of fashion is Victoria Beckham, who has had a really successful year with her fashion label. Victoria, husband David and the children are in the process of selling their UK mansion and making a full-time move to the US.

The Railway Man  – filming is due to start in Scotland this Monday on the new film about a soldier’s battle to overcome being tortured.

The movie is based on the book of the same name by Eric Lomax, who in the Second World War was forced as a prisoner of war to work on building the Burma railway. The railway was notorious and became known as the Death Railway as an estimated 106k people lost their lives in the building of the railway. This figure included over 6k British POW’s as well as prisoners from other countries.

The movie stars Colin Firth as the older Eric Lomax and Jeremy Irvine plays Lomax as a younger man. Nicole Kidman stars opposite Firth playing the part of Patricia Wallace who goes on to marry Lomax. The film is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, who previously directed the award-winning Better Than Sex.

It is not the first time that Lomax’s story has been filmed as there was also a 1995 documentary called Enemy My Friend directed by Lomax’s friend Mike Finlason.

The movie starts shooting in Scotland and after an expected 2-month shoot there the railway construction scenes will be shot later in Australia and Thailand. The movie is expected to be released sometime in 2013.

Colin Firth revealed that he had twice met 92-year old Mr Lomax and his wife while he was preparing for the role. He said that he had been ““overwhelmed by the enormity of the story we’re trying to tell in 90 minutes.”
