100 Most Influential People – the annual Time magazine list of the most influential people in the world has been released today.

As far as the UK goes there are a few surprises. The Prime Minister doesn’t make the top 100 but actress Tilda Swinton does.

Prince William is not on the list but his wife is, as is her sister Pippa and also the woman (Sarah Burton) who designed Kate’s wedding dress.

The Middleton sisters have been given joint billing on the list and a spokesperson for Time said they had been included because they had risen from nowhere to become two of the most photographed people in the world.

David Beckham, who has been on earlier lists, is not there this year but Adele is in the top 100 for the first time.

Joining our UK people of influence are a number of world leaders including US President Barack Obama as well as business leaders such as new Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Other people making the top 100 include footballer Lionel Messi, actress Claire Danes and Rihanna.

Dick Clark – the US tv presenter has died today at the age of 82.

Clark was well-known as the host of American Bandstand of the most influential pop music shows of its time. Clark hosted the show from 1956 until it finished in 1989.

He is probably best known to most Americans however as the presenter of the New Year’s Eve show New Year’s Rockin’ Eve which featured Clark counting down the dropping of the ball in Times Square.

Because of his youthful appearance Clark was referred to as America’s oldest teenager. He was married 3 times and apart from his last wife he leaves 3 children.

His well-known tv sign-off seems to be an appropriate epitaph “for now Dick Clark…….so long.”
