Stella McCartney, Damian Lewis – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 19 February 2012

19 Feb

Stella McCartney – as we have already reported the big event for this year’s London Fashion Week is the first appearance for Stella McCartney.

The show did not disappoint as she showed off her latest collection in a stunning show set in an old church in Mayfair. As well as a room full of celebrities, all of Stella’s new collection and the show’s host being levitated the show’s biggest surprise came from the fact that it abandoned the traditional catwalk approach and instead used a flash mob style to show off al the evening wear.

Stella had invited loads of her showbiz friends including Rihanna, Minnie Driver, Kate Moss,Bianca Jagger, Richard E Grant, Yasmin Le Bon and the big name of US fashion reporting Anna Wintour, the UK-born editor of American Vogue.

The evening was themed around a dinner party and during the meal models got up and danced showing off the collection in a quite different way. The moves were all choreographed by Blanca Li who worked on the video for Around The World by Daft Punk.

One of the hottest outfits on Saturday was worn by Rihanna with a floor length teal gown with a plunge neckline and a very low back. She is in the Uk for the Brits which take place this Tuesday.

The verdict on Stella’s Saturday show was a resounding thumbs up and we feel that it has probably made her the premier London Fashion Week for some years to come.

Damian Lewis – the British actor stars in Homeland, a US tv show which is President Barack Obama’s favourite programme at the moment.

41-year old Lewis showed he was more than capable of a good American accent when he starred as Major Winters in the 2001 US mini-series Band of Brothers. He has since appeared in a number of other US series the most well-known being Life in which he played the main part of Charlie Crews, a detective who is released from prison after serving 12 years for a crime he didn’t commit.

His new series Homeland stars Claire Danes as a CIA agent chasing after his character US Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody who has been freed after being held captive in Iraq. Although most of the US thinks of Brody as a hero Danes character Carrie Mathison believes him to have been “turned” by the Iraqi forces into a terrorist.

Homeland has been made by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa who were behind the hugely successful series “24” which starred Kiefer Sutherland. As well as being named by the US president as his favourite series it has also received rave reviews in the media and also been a winner in the Golden Globes.

Even though Lewis is turning into a big star in the US he has still not forgotten his UK roots and will be seen in Nick Love’s remake of “The Sweeney where he plays Jack Regan’s boss. He says that when he works in America he keeps up his US accent all day until the make-up comes off. He spends on average 5 months in the US and 7 months back here in the UK with his wife, actress Helen McCrory and their 2 children daughter Manon and son Gulliver.

The first series of Homeland starts tonight on C4 and the shooting of the 2nd series is scheduled for May this year.
