Oscar Nominations, Amanda Holden – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 24 January 2012

Oscar Nominations 2012 – the big surprise in today’s Oscar nominations comes from Martin Scorsese’s Hugo which has been awarded 11 nominations.

The film was not so favourably viewed by this year’s other awards and it has pushed past the much-fancied “The Artist” which received 10 nominations. In another surprise there are 6 nominations for Moneyball which beat The Descendants starring George Clooney, which has just 5 nominations.

That stalwart of the Oscars Meryl Streep has not surprisingly received a Best Actress nomination for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady and also that other Hollywood favourite George Clooney receives a Best Actor nomination for his role in The Descendants.

In the most prized category of Best Picture the full list of nominees is:

  • The Artist
  • The Descendants
  • Moneyball
  • The Tree of Life
  • The Help
  • Midnight in Paris
  • Hugo
  • War Horse
  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

The winners will be announced at the Oscars ceremony on 26 February. The show is due to be hosted this year by Billy Crystal in his 9th appearance as the show’s frontman. At the age of 63 he will be the oldest host since comedian Bob Hope was in charge for the 18th time in 1978. Billy may have a few more years in him yet as Bob Hope hosted his first Oscars Award ceremony in 1940.

Amanda Holden – it has been reported that the Britain’s Got Talent judge has gone into labour.

Amanda apparently admitted herself to hospital yesterday and BGT bosses decided to go ahead with the show’s Blackpool auditions today with just the remaining 3 judges. Amanda is sure to take as much care as she can having tragically lost a baby at 7 months in February last year.

40-year old Amanda has not publicly revealed the due date of her baby although we are sure that BGT bosses will have had an idea of when it is due. This may well be another reason why Simon Cowell hired Alesha Dixon earlier this year as he would not have wanted an all male judging panel while Amanda is missing from the show.

Amanda and husband Chris Hughes already have a 5-year old daughter Lexi and they have said that this baby is also going to be a girl. Amanda joked earlier this year that she might make BGT supremo Simon Cowell the new baby’s godfather as being a girl she would need loads of shoes and as Simon is so wealthy he could set up a trust fund for her. Amanda is a big fan of footwear and she and new judge Alesha have already had some girltime bonding over shoes.

We will keep our fingers crossed for Amanda and Chris that all goes well with the birth and hope they soon get a chance to take their new arrival back home to their new cottage in the Cotswolds.
