Tomorrow is the start of 15 days of celebration of the new Year of the Dragon, the Chinese also call this time the Lunar New Year.
The Chinese celebrate this time of year with presents and feasting and the festival is the most important event in the Chinese calendar. Tonight on the eve of Chinese New Year is a time for people to celebrate with a family feast and the festivities will normally end with firecrackers. Tomorrow morning the children are given red envelopes with money as gifts to wish health, luck and prosperity.
This year is a special one to the Chinese as the Dragon is the only one of the 12 animals symbolising the years that is mythical. It is also seen as a special year for wealth and a good year for starting a business. It is also a very popular for a child to be born in. In Hong Kong they are gearing up for an especially busy time in their maternity hospitals.
Children born in the Year of the Dragon are said to make good lawyers, politicians and actors. Previous babies from Dragon Years include John Lennon and Al Pacino.
While saying hello to the Year of the Dragon we are saying goodbye to the Year of the Rabbit. Next year sees the Year of the Snake which begins on 10 February 2013.
Even if you are not Chinese it would seem like a good idea to welcome in a year of more prosperity and at the very least a good excuse for a nice Chinese meal out.
Having got engaged last June while on holiday in LA they seem to be looking to return to California in May this year with a view to moving out there after their wedding. They have no date set yet for their wedding but this is only because of complications with picking a date due to Frank not knowing yet if he is in England’s Euro 2012 squad this summer. Although there is no date yet they have already said that they will be getting married in Northern Ireland where Christine’s family live.
The couple have been tempted by the LA lifestyle after seeing how much Frank’s friend David Beckham and his family have enjoyed life out there. Beckham has just signed a new 2-year deal with US club LA Galaxy and it is believed that Frank would also like to play for the same side.
As well as being a good move for Frank, Christine is also believed to like the thought of a new job in the US. She is still not pleased about the way things turned out for her on ITV’s Daybreak and thinks that she has a good chance of landing a good job presenting an American tv show. How they would take to Christine’s Northern Ireland accent after seeing what they thought of Cheryl Cole’s Geordie tones is not known.
Christine still has several shows to go on Dancing On Ice and also has a deal for 2 further shows on the ITV network. Frank is also of course still signed to Chelsea until 2013 so they are both not exactly free agents at the present. The biggest hold on the couple is more likely to be the fact that Frank’s 2 daughters Luna and Isla still live in the UK with his ex Elen Rivas.
