She says that the inspiration behind her performance as the leather-clad fantasy figure was not any recent big screen actress such as Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeifer or Eartha Kitt who all played the Catwoman role in previous Batman films. She was instead inspired by US actress Hedy Lamarr, particularly her performance in the controversial 1933 film Ecstasy. The film featured the actress in a number of risky scenes with shots if her running and swimming naked and in the movie’s most infamous scene she simulates an orgasm for what is believed to be the first time on film. Sadly it seems that it is Hedy Lamarr’s breathing that is said to provide inspiration to Anne Hathaway but maybe we should wait and see?
The film’s director is Christopher Nolan and The Dark Knight Rises marks the final part of his Batman trilogy. He says of Anne’s portrayal of Catwoman aka Selina Kyle: “She had something very important we needed for this character – she’s an incredibly talented but naturalistic actress, which makes her great in film. She also has terrific theatrical skill so she can project a persona and there’s a big aspect of the character that is a persona. She’s a multi-layered character and we needed a great actress that could rise to that challenge,”
The Dark Knight Rises is due to be released in the UK on 20 July and appearing in the film with Hathaway are Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gary Oldman as Jim Goldman, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate and Michael Caine as the loyal Alfred.

She has made a formal complaint to police in Austria after an incident in a hotel with a new boyfriend Theo De Vries. The couple were staying at the Hotel Schloss Matzen near Innsbruck when there appears to have been a huge row in the early hours of the morning.
A hotel guest was quoted as saying: “There was banging and screaming and a few guests came out into the corridor. It sounded like a terrible fight. By the early hours people had had enough and someone called the police. It was obviously a very serious tiff indeed. There was a lot of screaming and shouting.”
It is believed the singer was taken to a nearby hospital after the incident and she was said to be suffering from swollen eyes, puffy lips and was also sporting a bandage on her arm. She was seen by fellow hotel guests in a hysterical state after the police were called and immediately she was released from hospital she flew back home to her mansion in Cadsden, Buckinghamshire.
A further development in the story has now come from De Vries who has claimed in an interview in today’s Sun that he was given a black eye by Sarah and that she also bit him on the leg and left teeth marks. The Dutchman said: “She threw an ashtray at my head, hitting my eye. She gave me a bloody nose. Don’t forget that she is a very good kick-boxer. She has done a lot of kick-boxing in the past.” He denies injuring the singer and says of photos showing her arriving home with a bandaged hand: “I really had to laugh at that picture. Sarah is an actress and don’t forget it.”
The pair were in Innsbruck for a New Year’s skiing holiday although after Sarah’s previous problems with alcohol addiction we are not sure she should have been going “on the piste”.
