Princess Diana’s dresses – some of the late Princess Diana’s most well-known dresses are to go on display at Kensington Palace next year.

Kensington Palace has been undergoing a £12m refurbishment and the Princess Di dress collection exhibition will feature as part of the re-opening of the palace.

Although there are only going to be 5 dresses on show they are all significant fashion items. The main feature of the exhibition is to be David Emanuel black strapless taffeta gown which Diana wore to the Royal Opera House in 1981 for the couple’s first public engagement. The gown instantly turned Diana into a worldwide fashion icon and was worn just 10 days after the couple had got engaged. David Emanuel did of course also design the wedding dress for Diana.

Other dresses in the exhibition include a Catherine Walker designed ivory dress which Diana wore for a photo-shoot by her favourite photographer Mario Testino for the magazine Vanity Fair.

The Kensington Palace curator Deirdre Murphy said: “We have carefully selected this collection of exquisite dresses to illustrate to visitors Diana’s evolving style and the important role fashion played in creating her public image, Kensington Place is an ideal setting to showcase these gowns — the atmosphere of the display will be truly magical.”

The fashion exhibition, entitled “Diana,” will open on March 26 and run until September as part of a permanent exhibition at Kensington Palace dedicated to Queen Victoria.

One Direction – the former X Factor contestants from last year have just kicked off their UK tour with a gig last night at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton.

it was not that long ago that their career seemed to be stalling as a number of former X Factor acts have found but now interest in the boy band is running high. They had a huge number of screaming girls in evidence last night at their opening concert and it was not just young girls screaming for them either.

The Wolverhampton concert is the start of their 21 date Up All Night tour and tickets for all the venues sold out well in advance with the fans last night queuing for hours for the chance to meet the group when they arrived at the venue. The title of the tour comes form the group’s debut album which was released on 21 November this year and became the fastest-selling debut album on the UK Albums Chart of 2011.

One Direction consist of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and the member making most of the publicity in recent weeks, Harry Styles. It is his recent romance with Xtra Factor co-host Caroline Flack that has attracted much media interest with particular attention coming to their fifteen year age difference. It is rumoured that in recent days Harry has cooled down the relationship and Caroline was seen looking a little upset after she dropped Harry off for a band rehearsal at the Watford Coliseum.

The group’s UK tour ends on 26 January 2012 with a concert at The Waterfront in Belfast. They have also announced a US tour with Big Time Rush in February and March next year.
