17-year old Amelia found herself thrown into a sing-off with Craig Colton after the pair ended up as the week’s bottom two. After the judge’s voting on the sing-off ended in a stalemate 2-2 the result was decided by the public vote and Amelia was through to next week’s quarter-final stage.
Amelia thinks that she has not attracted even phone votes as she was out of the competition for so many weeks during which time the other acts have steadily been building up their fanbase.
After winning through in the sing-off with her rendition of Lady Gaga’s You and I, Amelia now finds herself ion the final stages of the competition with Janet Devlin, Misha B, Marcus Collins and Little Mix. Although we are sure that she is thrilled to be through to the quarter-final stage when she was on Xtra Factor Amelia said she was “absolutely devastated” that Craig had been voted off. “I’m absolutely devastated for Craig and it was hard because he was one of my closest friends in the X Factorcompetition so being in the sing-off with him was like fighting against one of my family members.
“It was the worst thing I’ve ever had to do in my life but I’m so grateful to have been saved, I’ve just got to make sure I really put it out the bag next week.”
Amelia also revealed this week that she suffers from Type 1 diabetes, having had the condition for the last 14 years. She is concerned that the diabetes could eventually cause other health problems and has said she is worried that it may eventually cause her to go blind. At the moment she has to have 4 injections a day to deal with her diabetes.
She told the Daily Star: “I used to have fits when I was younger. I have to be careful with my bloods and adrenalin uses a lot of energy, so I need to decrease my insulin before I perform. It’s hard to get the balance right but I always decrease my insulin just before performing to be safe.”
Having lost his first act Gary Barlow was none too complimentary of Amelia’s performance this Saturday saying that she was shouting her way through her Gaga sing-off song.
The pair were poached from the BBC in what was considered to be something of a coup at the time but has later proved to be unsatisfactory for both the tv channel and both presenters.
It is said that ITV chiefs did not believe that Christine had the gravitas to present serious news items and wanted to axe her but keep Adrian on the show. He is said to have said he would not stay on Daybreak if she was no longer to be his co-host and so both are to leave the show. It was said yesterday that Eamonn Holmes, who currently hosts the Sky News breakfast show, and Natasha Kaplinsky, who works for ITV news, have been approached to see if they would be interested in taking over on Daybreak.
Christine is said to be a year and a half into an exclusive £1million-a-year three-year deal with the channel. How this is resolved with her leaving has not been announced. Last week she was announced as being the new presenter of Dancing On Ice, taking over from ITV favourite Holly Willoughby.
The two presenters of Daybreak were hoped to put the show at the top of the breakfast ratings for ITV but what happened instead is that the show ended up with half the viewing figures of the BBC Breakfast show.
Chiles and Bleakley were said to have been told that they would be safe until the New Year and their exit would be handled sensitively however it seems fairly clear that someone leaked the news to the media much earlier than the pair would have liked. Adrian seemed fairly angry about the way the matter was handled saying: “I’m angry, upset and acutely embarrassed. Myself and Christine were told we would be going in the New Year but we were assured we could go with our dignity intact. That’s obviously not happened. We were enjoying the show and we thought things were going well. We didn’t want to go.” He continued: dark forces have leaked it for their own ends and I am mightily unhappy about it.”
Christine was less forthcoming about the exit with her only official comment coming via Twitter, saying: “Morning, what a lovely headline to wake up to. My sarcasm comes across in this tweet I hope”.
