Amanda Holden crash – pregnant Amanda was involved in a car crash with a lorry yesterday. Amanda was understandably worried about the effect of the crash on her unborn child and was taken to hospital by a stranger who was at the scene. Thankfully doctors gave both Amanda and her unborn child the all-clear. Amanda was on her way to pick up her 5-year old daughter Lexi from school when the crash happened.
As a precaution she pulled out of yesterday’s performance of Shrek The Musical, in which she plays the role of Princess Fiona. Amanda is leaving the cast next month when Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh will be taking over the role of Princess Fiona.
Amanda is well-known to viewers for her role as a judge in Britain’s Got Talent and has even joked that she will ask Simon Cowell to be godfather to her new child as she is so keen to return to the show next year after the birth.
Amanda is currently involved with the Vodafone JustTextGiving campaign which is aiming to raise £100m for charities. Amanda is trying to raise money by holding a bake-a-thon for Great Ormond Street Hospital, and is trying to bake and hand deliver a cupcake to every child in the hospital.
Eddie Murphy – comedian and actor Eddie has been confirmed as the host of next years Oscars. The Oscars are to be held in February 2012 and it will be the first time that Murphy has been chosen to host the ceremony.
This year’s ceremony was hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco and was criticised in some quarters for being a little lifeless. No doubt this is behind the decision to give Eddie a chance to liven things up.
Eddie’s films have earned over £4.4 billion at the box office and include Beverley Hills Cop and Shrek. He started off as a stand up comedian so the chance to host the Oscars will give him an opportunity to return to his showbiz roots.
Have a look at the trailer for 1984’s Beverley Hills Cop, containing the classic “banana in the tailpipe”.
She said that the outfits were a big part in her decision to take part, “it’s every girl’s dream to wear the dresses they wear on the show – the ultimate girlie glamour!” Jones said of her reasons for taking part.
34-year old Alex took over Christine Bleakley on the One Show and in February this year she replaced Claudia Winkleman as a co-presenter of Let’s Dance For Comic Relief. Since she was conformed as taking part in Strictly Alex says that her One Show co-presenter Matt Baker has been giving her plenty of advice as he came second in the show last year.
“Matt has not shut up since the day I told him I was taking part in Strictly. He has a line of advice for absolutely everything from what to eat, who to be partnered with, to hopping on one leg for balance,” she said.
We will get our first look at the new crop of Strictly competitors this Saturday when the red carpet show is shown on BBC1 at 6.10 pm.
Weight Watchers – a study in medical journal The Lancet reports that patients referred to weight loss programmes such as Weight Watchers lose twice as much weight as those just offered standard NHS care. The study was conducted by the Cambridge based Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Research Unit and studied the progress of 772 overweight people.
The patients who were given a year-long membership of Weight Watchers lost an average of 11 pounds 4 ounces compared to those on standard NHS care who lost just 4 pounds 13 ounces on average.
As a result of the study the NHS is being urged to offer 1 year membership to Weight Watchers to obese patients in a bid to improve the nation’s health. The NHS does currently offer membership to Weight Watchers for some obese patients but this tends to be for just a 12 week period.
The research is welcome news as it is expected that quite soon obesity will overtake smoking as the single most preventable cause of chronic diseases worldwide. Around 1.5 billion adults worldwide are estimated to be overweight with about 0.5 billion thought to be classified as obese.
